How to reach Kashmir: flights, trains and roads

By air

Srinagar airport (SXR) has direct flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Pune, Ahmedabad and other cities, plus one-stop options from almost anywhere in India. It is the fastest and most common route. Book two to three months ahead for peak season.

By train

The nearest major railhead is Jammu Tawi. From there it is a scenic but long 7 to 9 hour drive to Srinagar over the Jawahar Tunnel, or a short flight. The new rail link towards the valley is extending this over time.

By road

• From Jammu: NH44 via Ramban and Banihal, roughly 260 km
• From Manali or Leh: only in summer, over high passes, a serious multi-day drive
